A Simple Truth About My Lenten Journey…

“Trust all things to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and to Mary, Help of Christians and you will see what miracles are.” – St. John Bosco

I began my Lenten journey with a well laid plan as to how I was going to “do” Lent this year. I was committed to more intentional prayer time; my fasting was going to be more meaningful this year; and my family was going to find more “ways” to serve those in need. I even had my Lenten reading on my coffee table. While for the most part, I was making some progress with my Lenten journey, what I had failed to consider (again), was that God had a better plan for me this Lent. He was not calling on me to “do” Lent, rather he was calling me to follow Him into the desert for these 40 days and focus on Him and all those things that keep me from Him.

Through the gift of Eucharistic Adoration, spending time with Jesus in the Eucharist, it became ever apparent that the silence offered to me here is the better plan God had in store for me this Lent. It’s allowed me the space needed to reflect upon the areas of my life that need refocusing. It’s allowed me the opportunity to listen in silence to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. It’s allowed me to take my many struggles, concerns, prayers to Jesus and place them on the altar and into the Heart of Jesus. It’s allowed me to feel peace and refreshment in this world of ours.

God always has a better plan for us and most of all He desires for us to return to Him wholeheartedly. Perhaps this Lent God is calling you to spend time with Him in Adoration.
